Nursing essay example

Nursing has been my passion deeply rooted in my heart. From the young age, I knew I was destined to be a practitioner, the position I could use to serve my community especially the teenagers and women.  Nursing is boundless, and for this reason, I always had an urge to utilize every chance I got by taking the course. Being a nurse would help me get life satisfaction and achieve my dream of making my community better. My aspiration has always been to have an extraordinary life characterized by deep learning, generous service and lead with courageously while I serve among women and teenagers. Choosing a career in nursing and deciding to pursue my degree at Excelsior College is a result of various issues I encountered in my community. These reasons have made me consider pursuing a degree in nursing Excelsior College and open a health care facility.

Reasons to pursue a nursing degree

My long-term goal is to work towards getting a registered nurse degree in the health care and establish a health care facility to deal with women and teenagers health-care issues. I can only achieve this by having a degree in nursing and getting registered nurse after passing my state boards exam. Although my work experiences are based on employed facilities, having a degree would help to establish a health-care facility that would assist in resolving health care problems related to women and teenagers. As a nurse primarily working with various patients, I have noticed that there exist a gap in women and teen health care due to patient miscommunication, nursing miseducation as well as the absence of holistic care. This has led to the extended stay of the patient in the hospital.

Education is the greatest proactive step a nurse can adopt as he or she endeavors to prevent acute illness among patient. As a graduate nurse, I will be able to provide and coordinate patient care, provide counselling and educate patient care, give advice and teach patient care, conduct physical diagnosis and health accounts, administer medications, provide numerous personalized interventions, make important decisions on immediate actions, coordinate care in various ways, direct and supervise over LPN’s and nurse assistants. Such is with Transtheoretical Model first offered by Prochaska and Di Clemente (1983) which gives the continuum of steps to be taken to move people from one stage to another in health care setting. I will also be able to conduct research.

Accurate and honest patient communication has a great potential to lead to better patient perception, compliance, and trust in the process of treatment. However, the critical issue is to view each patient personally and holistically to achieve better outcomes. One cannot achieve this without advanced education. Also, in the primary care setting for nursing practitioners in my community, there is a gap which can only be filled effectively through critical thinking and thorough assessment of communication, education, and holistic care (Scheffer & Rubenfeld, 2000). These are some of the learning goals I have while pursuing a degree registered nurse in the health care.

It is important to understand various issues related to the nursing practitioners such as accurate and honest patient communication, better patient perception, compliance, and trust in the process of treatment. The most appealing areas of the course are the practical course that would introduce me to real issues facing the patient. They will help me come into contact with the actual problems on the ground after being registered as a nurse. This will instill confidence and determination to address all the health problems presented to me. By taking a degree course in nursing, I will be able to learn on some of the most crucial areas for a practitioner. Among them is the theoretical model relating to people behavior on susceptibility to illness and their readiness to screening (Fawcett, & Desanto-Madeya, 2012). It will help in understanding how to deal with early cases of diseases among teenagers and women. Also, it will give me a hand to match teenagers and women behavior and health care advice, determine the effectiveness of treatment recommended and scientifically evaluate treatment protocols. As a nurse, I will be able to work efficiently and solve most of the cases at an early stage.

By attending a nursing degree at Excelsior College, my character as a patient advocate, diligent worker and a leader who has an insatiable desire for knowledge will be improved. I will be able to learn and accept the responsibilities I will get after being a registered nurse.

These are some of the learning goals I have while pursuing a degree registered nurse in the health care at Excelsior College. As a degree graduate, I will be able to holistically analyze women and teenagers health care issues and help improve the overall community health. I have come to understand that I belong to the community to promote health and wellness so that teenagers and women do not end up being hospitalized in critical condition. I will be able to effectively assess, diagnose, follow-up, communicate, educate and provide personalized holistic care. I am profoundly convinced that a nursing degree program will help me realize my goals and improve my proficiency as an extraordinarily advanced practice nurse.
